What is Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy (BTR)?

Updated: May 19

A gentle way to feel like you again after a difficult birth.

Let’s be honest — people don’t always talk about the hard bits of birth. The moments you felt frightened. Out of control. Or like your voice wasn’t heard. But those moments matter. And if they’re still weighing heavy on your heart, it’s not “just you.”

Birth Trauma Resolution (BTR) Therapy is a safe, gentle, evidence-based way to help you process and move through birth trauma — without having to relive it all.

It’s for anyone who came away from birth feeling not quite okay — even if it “looked fine on paper.”

And the best part? You don’t have to carry this forever.

What actually counts as birth trauma?

Trauma isn’t about what happened, but how it made you feel. You might have had a fast or emergency birth. Or maybe things looked “normal” but you felt ignored, scared, pressured, or alone.

You might be:

  • Replaying your birth over and over

  • Feeling panicked thinking about it

  • Struggling to bond or enjoy motherhood

  • Feeling disconnected, on edge, or tearful

  • Anxious about another pregnancy or birth

If any of that feels familiar — you are not broken. And you don’t have to just “get over it.”

What is BTR Therapy and how does it work?

Birth Trauma Resolution (BTR) Therapy is a short series of sessions that help your brain reprocess the traumatic memory in a safe, structured way.

It uses:

  • Deep relaxation

  • Guided imagery

  • Gentle, neuroscience-based techniques to help your nervous system let go of the emotional charge attached to the memory.

It’s not counselling. You don’t have to retell everything in detail. And you stay in control the whole time.

Most people feel real shifts after just 3 sessions.

Can it help me?

If your birth left emotional scars, even subtle ones, BTR could help you feel:

  • Lighter

  • More connected

  • Less reactive

  • And ready to move forward without fear

It’s also helpful for those who’ve experienced:

  • Pregnancy loss or previous trauma

  • A baby in NICU/SCBU

  • A traumatic postnatal experience

  • A triggering fertility or pregnancy journey

What happens in a session?

Each session is 1:1, and we begin by hearing your story and understanding how it’s showing up in your life now.

Then we use gentle tools to:

  • Calm your body

  • Reduce distress linked to the memory

  • Help your brain reprocess what happened safely

Sessions are available in-person in Warwickshire or online — you choose what feels best.
