The Magic of Baby Massage

Updated: Jun 1

There’s something incredibly powerful about your touch. Something that speaks louder than words, calms faster than a lullaby, and connects you to your baby in a way nothing else can. That’s the heart of baby massage—and I’m truly passionate about it, because I’ve seen it work its magic again and again.

Hi, I’m Vicky—co-founder of Beyond the Bump & leader of our Online Blissful Baby Massage course.

I’ve used baby massage with all three of my children—from those early newborn days right through to toddlerhood and even childhood. And I’ve had the absolute privilege of guiding hundreds (maybe even thousands) of families through our 4-week course, watching babies transform from unsettled and uncomfortable in week one, to calm, content and connected by week three. It’s amazing.

Every. Single. Time.

So if you're wondering whether baby massage is right for your little one—here’s what you need to know.

Why Is Baby Massage So Powerful?

Let’s start with the science (I do love a bit of evidence!).

Research shows that baby massage:

  • Reduces cortisol (stress hormone) and increases oxytocin (that gorgeous love hormone).

  • Supports better sleep by calming the nervous system.

  • Helps with digestion and colic, easing wind and constipation.

  • Boosts bonding between baby and caregiver.

  • Supports brain development, coordination and body awareness.

  • Can even aid weight gain in premature babies.

But honestly? Beyond the science, it just feels right. It’s a beautiful way to tune into your baby, to slow down, and to connect in a gentle, meaningful way—especially during those early weeks when everything else feels a bit chaotic.

What We See Every Week in Class

In our Blissful Baby Massage sessions (which feel more like a warm, safe hug than a traditional class), it’s not uncommon for babies to arrive crying, wriggling, or in discomfort from trapped wind or tummy troubles. But by week three, the shift is unreal. We see babies begin to recognise the routine, to visibly relax the moment their parent starts the strokes. Some fall asleep mid-session. Others give their first smiles. It’s honestly magical.

And it's not just the babies that change. Parents start to gain confidence, tune in to their baby's cues, and begin to really enjoy these little windows of connection. It’s healing. It’s empowering. It’s grounding.

A Tool You Can Use for Years

This isn’t just for newborns. I’ve used baby massage through weaning tummy ache, toddler tantrums, bedtime battles, and even growing pains. A gentle hand on the back, a tummy routine to sooth sore tummy's, a familiar rhythm of strokes across their feet—it brings comfort, grounding, and closeness.

Massage becomes a tool in your parenting toolkit—not just for colic, but for connection.

We know that getting out of the house in those early days isn’t always easy. That’s why we created our Blissful Baby Massage Online Course—the same soothing techniques and supportive vibe, just from the comfort of your home, and with me guiding you every step of the way on video (like you’re in the room with me).

Want that in-person connection? Our in-person 4-week Blissful Baby Massage course runs regularly from our gorgeous pregnancy and postnatal hub in Warwickshire—think calm interiors, warm drinks, and baby classes that truly put you first.

It’s More Than Massage

Positive touch changes everything. It helps your baby feel safe in the world. It helps you feel more in tune and more confident. And it gives you a little bit of calm in the chaos.

Whether your baby is brand new, struggling with an upset baby, or you’re just craving something that helps you feel more connected—I’d love to support you.

Because baby massage really is magic.

With love,

Vicky x
