Where Can I Give Birth in Warwickshire? Your Local Birth Options Explained

When you're expecting a baby, one of the biggest decisions you'll make is where you'd like to give birth. Whether you're drawn to the familiarity of your own home, the calm of a birth centre, or the reassurance of a hospital setting, it’s so important to understand what’s available—and what’s right for you.

Warwickshire is lucky to have a range of birth options, and whatever you choose, you deserve to feel informed, in control, and supported every step of the way. So where can you give birth in Warwickshire?

🏠 Home Birth: Yes, You Absolutely Can!

Let’s clear this up first—home birth is an option for anyone, not just for those classed as “low risk”. It’s your legal right to choose where to give birth, and that includes your own living room, bedroom, or even by the fire with fairy lights and your favourite music on.

In Warwickshire, the local NHS trusts support home births, and community midwives are trained to attend births at home. Home birth can be a wonderful, safe, and empowering option. You’ll have one-to-one midwifery care, you’re in your own space, and you can tuck yourself into your own bed with your new baby afterwards. Bliss.

That said, due to midwife shortages, some home birth services may be limited at times. Speak to your midwife early and ask for the home birth team. If it’s something you want, advocate for it—we cover exactly how to do that in our in-person antenatal courses across Warwickshire and in our online course, The Birth & Baby Academy.

🏥 Hospital Births: Support Every Step of the Way

If you’d feel more comfortable giving birth in hospital, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas offer several excellent options, with both midwife-led and consultant-led units available.

Warwick Hospital – Bluebell Birth Centre

Right in the heart of Warwick, this hospital offers both midwife-led care at the Bluebell Birth Centre and consultant-led care on the labour ward. Bluebell is ideal if you’re planning a more natural birth, with pool rooms, low lighting, and a calm, homely feel. If medical care is needed, help is just downstairs.

George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton

A smaller hospital offering personalised maternity care. They support both midwife- and consultant-led births and are known for their warm, supportive approach.

University Hospital Coventry – Lucina Birth Centre

The Lucina Birth Centre is a beautiful, midwife-led unit with birthing pools in every room, designed to feel relaxing and private. There’s also a main labour ward onsite for anyone who needs a higher level of care.

Birmingham Women’s Hospital

If you’re closer to the north of Warwickshire, this may be a good option. It’s one of the UK’s specialist maternity hospitals, offering all levels of maternity care.

🤰 How Do You Decide?

Ultimately, the “right” place to give birth is wherever you feel safest and most supported. That might be your home, a birth centre, or a hospital room. What matters is knowing your options, understanding the pros and cons, and making a decision that feels aligned with you.
